Cllr Claire Bonham backs community campaign for safer crossing in Upper Norwood
Residents living near the junction of Harold Road and College Green collected 310 signatures on a local petition for a zebra crossing, which was then submitted by Lib Dem Crystal Palace & Upper Norwood Councillor Claire Bonham. The petition was heard at a Full Council meeting on Wednesday 11th December, with Cllr Bonham speaking alongside Arlo Mirza, 13, who is the son of petition creator and local resident Ruth Mirza.
Cllr Bonham said:
"It was a pleasure to speak on behalf of residents living on Harold Road and College Green and raise their concerns with the Council. Arlo was the star - passionately putting the case for a new zebra crossing so that everyone can feel safe at this junction.
"I am pleased to say that Croydon Council responded positively to the petition and agreed to submit a bid for funding to investigate the feasibility of adding a zebra crossing to existing road markings. This is a great result for Ruth, Arlo and all those children who walk to school and park, and a testament to how a positive community campaign can have a real impact".
